Frak? Are you a BSG fan? I feel that the elections are rigged, but I don't have sufficient evidence to prove it. Rush Limbaugh is a scumbag. He's a hypocritical drug addict that sold out his maid to the narcos to keep his own fat ass out of prison. He's a piece of shit. Unfortunately, this soap opera has a devastating effect on people's lives around the world. Our government's policies are terribly influential.

Battlestar Galactica? Sure (but more so when I was a kid). "Unfortunately, this soap opera has a devastating effect on people's lives around the world. Our government's policies are terribly influential." I totally agree.

Unfortunately, the end of my video came out a bit wrong. The aspects of politics that we as citizens are privy to (can engage in) is a complete fantasy. The interface between "us" and "them" is the soap opera. The public face of politics is the soap opera. On the other hand, the actions taken by those in power are very real. The last line of this video bothered me, but I didn't feel like doing it over.

Oh, that actually clears things up a bit. I posted a video response respectfully disagreeing with you because of that last line. I think we need to get involved in the political process at the grass roots level and work our way up. Not me though, I could never run for office. Do you have a clean and scandal free record? D4Shawn in 2012???

I hate to be an apologist for the political process, but if you've ever tried to actually effect any kind of communal action to make things better, you'd realise that it does involve a lot of discussion - that's what the word "politics" means. Disengaging from it will only give more power to those who seek to exploit your silence as accession. The idea that an antisocial underclass of disconnected intellectuals is going to initiate change is pure fantasy.

I agree! and they say that politicians are politicians because they're too fukin ugly to BE actors ;) I remember watching news as a kid when i HAD to. ie., at teatime(dinner), and shit....the GRIMness of those fukers i was really aware of. and you know, that's never left me...? they still look as grim as fuck. dead dead dead. eyes of a child huh?

It's interesting that you say that, because I believe that the glue (if you will) that holds our political system together is in fact fantasy/mythology. Just look at our monetary system (a fantasy/house of cards that exists "only because we all choose to believe that paper has value [when in reality it doesn't]). "Government" is an abstract fiction that exists only because people believe in fantasy/mythology (they are confused about what is real vs. unreal).

Government is a unicorn (basically). Fantasy/illusion is at the root of all that is amiss in the world. Mythology is what you must undermine in order to change anything. stefbot (who's here on YouTube) talks a lot about that (at least in his podcasts). Check him out sometime. But as far as disengaging goes, if you want to dispel an illusion, you simply have to stop believing that what is abstract/conceptual (like "government") is real/concrete.

Did you smoke marijuana before making this?

Yes, I know Stefbot - I've watched most of his videos, and while I was initially attracted to his ideas, I've now unsubscribed. I think he is a highly intelligent man, trapped in his one-sided dogma. He claims to be a philosopher, but he speaks at best like a politician, at worst like an evangelist. He uses phrases like "the government steals your money at the point of a gun", which is a very emotive use of language - not the language of someone who claims to be the paragon of rationality.

Meanwhile, in the real world, governments and democracies are working perfectly well. Norway is probably the best place to live on the planet, based on things like health, prosperity and social cohesion. They also have high taxation, universal healthcare, and comprehensive welfare. And it's no coincidence that Norway and other similar countries are the most seculare states in the world.

But I can see why someone in the US would think that the idea of government is broken. IMHO, the US doesn't have a government; unchecked capitalism has led to the formation of a corporate hegemony, which has nothing to do with "governing" the people - ie. making decisions and financing the improvement of the people's lives - the US is a country run for profit, so of course the people get a raw deal.
