Also President Zachary Taylor died outside the 20 year curse (elected in 1848 and died in 1850). But I also seem to recall that he refused to take office on March 04, 1849 as it was a Sunday and he was very religious. Nevertheless, he formally became President that day without an inaugural procedure.

You mean be proven victor of the Florida recount? Al Gore did in fact win the popular vote. As for Reagan's assassination attempt in 1981 there were also many other assassination attempts on other Presidents (Harry S. Truman in 1949 and two on Gerald R. Ford in 1975). When President George W. Bush was in Georgia someone attempted to assassinate him by throwing a grenade, I think.

I was just thinking about the "20 year curse" a few days ago & had researched the history long ago, but forgotten. On Reagan & Bush 43 transferring power to VPs sparing them: Many interpret that Reagan DID fall victim to the curse DUE TO the assassination attempt and of course, Bush 43 has 538 days remaining in his term, so stay tuned. Perhaps by losing, Al Gore will yet be proven the "winner" in 2000

What 'saved' the two last Presidents? Maybe its the fact that during their tenure they temporarily (for a few hours) gave up their jobs to the Vice President. (George Bush in 1985 and Dick Cheney in 2002 and 2007).

In 1980 Ronald Reagan was elected President and there was an assassination attempt on him in 1981. However, he was not killed and survived until the end of his term. George W. Bush was elected President in 2000 and has not yet died.

Did you hear about the "20 year curse"? Although I cannot be certain of its validity but it was allegedly imposed by Tecumseh after he was beaten by William Henry Harrison in 1811 at Tippecanoe. Tecumseh said that William Henry Harrison will die in office after being elected and so would each President elected every 20 years thereafter.

More freaky time links: George Herbert Walker Bush (Bush 41) became acting president on 7/13/85 as Ronald Reagan underwent cancer surgery to remove two feet of his intestines. It was 8,043 days (or 22 yrs., 8 days) before VP Dick Cheney became acting president on 7/21/07 as George Walker Bush (Bush 43) underwent a colonoscopy. The begining of 8043 is 80—like 1980, when Reagan/Bush were elected. The ending of 8043 is 43—like George Walker Bush is the 43rd president of the United States
