There was a little musical misunderstanding. RB thought MB was somewhere else in the song. Great to hear/see those Big Dudes having a great time. I hope they still have. It's probably hot fun in Birdland.

While it is obvious fact ,that Jazz musicians have used pop material to their advantage, making them sound better in the process, the opposite is also true:pop and fusion people can spoil even the great jazz tunes, and that is what we ´re talking about here.

You can´t go wrong with either one.Bud,BTW,was on the first recording of the tune(w.Cootie Williams)and was Monk´s favourite pianist and interpreter of his music.

Unlike you, Jazz masters are not so exclusive in thinking. They play from pop to classic for they just love what sounds good.Listen to Davis, Benson, Mclaughlin, Metheny, Ford, Montgomery. Jazz lives on assimilation and improvisation on any musical theme. Just clear your mind from what you think how jazz should be and listen to jazz as it is. You'll know that jazz lives.

Bud Powell's correct recording? Wouldn't you say that the original Monk recording is "correct"? He DID write it after all.

Exactly,it´s easy to get confused, the way some people play, just consult your Webster and everything will be clear. That and a Bud Powell´s record.
